Divisional Fellow -- Experimental Particle Physics
The Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is seeking a scientist with a record of accomplishment, creative ability and outstanding promise in the field of experimental particle physics. The appointment will be as a Divisional Fellow, a five year appointment with the expectation of promotion to a career position as a Senior Staff Scientist. The Divisional Fellow position at LBNL is similar to a tenure track junior faculty position at a university. An appointment directly to Senior Staff Scientist may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
The current program in experimental particle physics has two major thrust areas: ATLAS at the LHC and the study of neutrino oscillations using reactor neutrinos (Daya Bay). These programs have a very active physics analysis component complemented by software development and detector development and engineering. We are also beginning programs on the physics of neutrinos and rare processes related to the planned high-intensity beams at Fermilab. Partnerships with the LBNL Engineering Division, the Nuclear Science Division and the Computing Sciences Directorate provide very strong support in key technical areas. The successful candidate will be expected to play a leadership role in one of our program areas and in the experiment as a whole.
Candidates should have several years of experience in experimental particle physics beyond Ph.D., and have demonstrated leadership and original achievements in research. Experience in hadron collider physics or neutrino research is very desirable.
How To Apply
To apply from this page, click the "Apply Now" link (above), and follow the on-line instructions to complete the application process. As part of the online application process, please submit a single attachment that includes both your resume or CV and a statement of your research interests. Please be sure to reference where you found out about the position.
Applicants must also email their curriculum vitae, publication list, and a statement describing their research experience and future interests in pdf format to eppfellow09@lbl.gov, and arrange to have at least five letters of recommendation (and no more than one from an LBNL reference) sent to the same email address.
To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by 18 December 2009.
Berkeley Lab is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer committed to the development of a diverse workforce.
