POSITION: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has multiple openings for a Senior Software Developer in Berkeley , CA.


Duties: Oversee the development, installation, and maintenance of the Advanced Light Source (ALS) control system hardware and software. Supervise a team of approximately 6 engineers with various skills and expertise, including software, electronics, motion control, and equipment protection systems. Develop the control system architecture and upgrade path of the accelerator control system with emphasis on performance and reliability. Participate in cost, schedule, and priority planning. Participate in planning and design reviews. Oversee code management. Review professional documentation (software, system configuration, and troubleshooting). Manage the network infrastructure and computer security. Manage Linux and Windows IT support. Support control systems development and software engineering support for projects at the laboratory but outside of ALS, including supervising additional engineers. Regularly interface with a variety of personnel to determine needs and performance of the instrumentation engineers, and software engineers. Participate in the global community of accelerator controls. Track the field of accelerator controls and related technologies. Introduce new technologies, methods, and tools to accelerator controls. Actively participate in conferences and collaboration meetings. Provide occasional off-hours support when needed to install, troubleshoot, and repair the ALS control system. Provide training for operations and maintenance staff. Practice and promote a safe working environment.

Benefits: This full salary range of this position is between $187886 to $ 208716  per year depending upon candidate's full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

Requirements: Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physical Sciences, or related field, followed by 72 months of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in the job offered, or in a computer-related occupation.
