Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Lab Biosciences Area Office (BSAO) is looking for a highly motivated, technically proficient and resourceful Student Assistant who is keen on gaining experience and exposure within Berkeley Lab’s Biosciences Area Office in addition to cleaning out and organizing the lab and office spaces.

 

Reporting to the BSAO Business Manager, you will be responsible for separating and preparing documents, organizing office supplies, sorting computer equipment and lab materials for salvage, archive, or disposal.

 

Important Notes:

  • This is a part time, non-exempt from overtime pay (hourly paid), 6 month Student appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must be enrolled in a full time undergraduate academic program to qualify for this position.
  • This position will initially operate at 20 hours per week onsite in Berkeley, CA (see location details below) with the opportunity to increase hours during the summer. Hours/Days of the week are flexible.Students will be required to not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic school year. 
  • Salary will be predetermined based on student step rates.
  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • Work will be performed onsite at the West Berkeley Biocenter (Potter St.) — Bldg. 977, 717 Potter St., Berkeley, CA.

 

What You Will Do: 

  • Assist with cleaning and organizing lab and office spaces.
  • Assist with separating and preparing documents, office supplies, computer equipment, and lab materials.
  • Sorting and labeling materials.
  • Assist with recording inventory on spreadsheets.

 

What is Required:

  • Must be enrolled in a full time undergraduate academic program.
  • Proficient computer skills including experience creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and execute tasks with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • What We Prefer:
  • General administrative skills.
  • A valid driver’s license to assist in transporting items to salvage.
