Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Engineering Division has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Machinist to join the Mechanical Fabrication team.

 

Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical support and assistance to higher level staff with the maintenance, repair, refurbishing, and testing, of equipment, experimental apparatus, and precision machine tools.


You may be assigned/rotated to a matrix assignment to provide direct machining support to specific projects/programs.


What You Will Do:

  • Provide technical/shop support and assistance to Machine Shop staff in the field of machine maintenance.

  • Perform simple machine maintenance and repair that may include removing, refurbishing, and or replacing of components and assemblies bearing simple to moderate complexity in a variety of equipment.

  • Prepare components and or assemblies for powder coating.

  • Powder coat components and or assemblies.

  • Read and interpret simple blueprints, sketches, parts lists, layout and assembly drawings, and operation manuals.

  • Perform material handling operations including operating cranes, hoists and industrial lift trucks.

  • Perform tool crib work including, ordering, sorting, stocking, cutter sharpening, and inventory maintenance.

  • Provide secondary operation support such as deburring, drilling, tapping, grinding and cleaning.


What is Required:

  • Understanding of machine tool and related mechanical processes, theory, and work practices typically acquired through 1-2 years of experience.

  • Basic machine tool experience, performing work on simple hardware components and assemblies.

  • Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints, sketches, parts lists, layout and assembly drawings, and operation manuals.

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, work from heights and confined spaces, and lift 23 kg (50 lbs.).

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Laboratory crane/hoist and industrial lift truck licensing.

 

Additional Desired Qualifications:·      

  • AA/AS degree in Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Technology or Industrial Technology.

  • 2D CAD/CAM experience and/or fundamental 3D experience.

  • General personal computer application skills with spreadsheets, databases and word processors.

Notes:

  • This is a full-time career appointment.

  • Full-time, M-F, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

  • Salary will be determined based on range by collective bargaining agreement.

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
