Berkeley Lab has an opening for a Senior Technical Recruiter to join our Human Resources team supporting  the Lab’s Computing Sciences Area and IT Division.  In this role, you will work in close collaboration with the Computational Research Division, National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), Scientific Networking Division (ESnet) and IT Division to develop strategies to attract and hire talented individuals. The ideal candidate is passionate about the organization they represent, is self-driven to find that perfect match, balances a strong process orientation with creativity and perseverance, and invests in developing relationships with senior leaders, team members, and candidates alike.  



What You Will Do:

  • Partner closely with Computing Sciences and IT Division leaders, hiring managers and HR partners to develop talent acquisition strategy to attract top talent.  

  • Promote open positions and develop diverse talent pipelines, focusing on IT professionals,  Software and Hardware Engineers and Computer Scientists.

  • Manage the full-cycle talent acquisition process for a variety of technical and non-technical positions across all experience levels, including:

    • Conduct in-take meetings to better support recruitment needs for each new requisition/position;

    • Advise on advertising strategies to reach a diverse talent pool;

    • Source, screen and assess applicants;

    • Provide guidance on interview structure, approaches, and interview questions;  

    • Guide hiring managers/committees through the specialized Scientists & Engineers recruitment process;

    • Support the evaluation and selection process and drive the offer process;

    • Manage the candidate experience throughout the lifecycle of the recruitment process; and

    • Ensure data integrity and the recruitment function is implemented in accordance compliance requirements as determined by Lab policy/process, collective bargaining agreements and federal requirements.

  • Provide expert consultation and communicate regular updates to managers, interview teams, search committees, collaborators and candidates on the status of recruitment activities. Ensure transparency in the process.  

  • Network, advertise, and market open positions utilizing traditional sources, social media, mailing lists, and developing new methods of reaching untapped talent pools.  Partner with hiring managers and Lab employees to connect to industry-related conferences and career events that draw local and national talent.  

  • Provide back-up support to colleagues within the Talent Acquisition Team. Share resources and best practices.  

  • Act as a ‘brand ambassador’ for Berkeley Lab in all internal and external engagements.


What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Marketing or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.  

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience recruiting technical (including IT professionals,  Software and Hardware Engineers, Computer Scientists) and non-technical positions from early-career to senior leadership levels, including prior experience working as an in-house recruiter.

  • Advanced sourcing capabilities for computer science, software and hardware engineers and other IT disciplines.

  • Strong relationship building skills with the ability to develop trusted adviser relationships at a senior level, internally and with candidates. Demonstrated experience consulting on recruitment strategy and assessing recruitment needs based on customer business needs. Proven ability to effectively navigate customers through the recruitment process and drive the process to completion.  

  • Excellent organization, time management, interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on problem-solving, good professional judgement, and delivering accurate, high-quality work efficiently.  

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in talent acquisition systems, HRIS, Word, Excel, email, and reporting; experience with Taleo and PeopleSoft desired.  Familiarity with Google applications and document sharing. Ability to work effectively with and provide support to end-user customers on both Mac and PC platforms.

  • Experience adhering to OFCCP internet applicant rule and recordkeeping.

  • Flexibility to travel and attend multi-day events.


Additional desired qualifications:

  • Knowledge of specific DOE, UC and/or Berkeley Lab human resources policies and procedures.

  • Experience working in a research environment.

  • Recruiter Academy Certified Recruiter (RACR), LinkedIn Recruiter, SHRM or HRCI certification(s).
