Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has multiple openings for a Materials Staff Sci/Engr in Berkeley, CA.

Duties: Develop new research directions in response to emerging priorities for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and DOE. Provide technical leadership developing theoretical and computational methods to advance the discovery and design of quantum materials for applications including quantum information science, high-energy physics and advanced microelectronics. Develop and support a diverse, international community of users through the Theory of Nanostructured Materials Facility at the Molecular Foundry. Publish in peer reviewed journals; contribute to scientific research papers, reports and review articles; present contributed and invited talks internationally at professional conferences and research institutions; provide expertise in service to the profession in areas related to quantum materials research. Manage the research funds and resources for research programs on which the Career Staff Scientist is lead or co -PI. Lead and supervise the work of postdoctoral scientists, technical staff, graduate and undergraduate students participating in this position’s work. Develop strong working relations and coordination with Staff and Faculty Scientists working in MSD and at the Molecular Foundry. May telecommute. Position requires 20% domestic and sometimes international travel.

Benefits: This full salary range of this position is between $215,856 to $305,111 per year depending upon candidates’ full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

Requirements: Employer will accept a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Materials Physics, or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a material science-related occupation. Position requires:

1.     Experience in materials theory and computational materials science research, including functional and quantum materials;

2.     Quantum mechanical and mesoscale computational methods for materials research;

3.     Conducting collaborative scientific research and collaborating with researchers with diverse scientific background;

4.     Presenting scientific research results to audiences with diverse technical backgrounds; and

5.     Preparation and handling of scientific manuscripts and reports, oral presentations and research posters.
