Berkeley Lab’s Advanced Light Source (ALS) is an electron accelerator/storage ring that serves as one of the world’s premier sources of X-ray and ultraviolet light for scientific research ranging from advanced materials to protein crystallography and 3D biological imaging. As a DOE national user facility, the resources of the ALS are available to qualified users around the world, attracting more than 2000 researchers and students annually.

All users working on-site at the ALS must be issued a Berkeley Lab Badge and a Berkeley Lab Identity (also called an "LDAP") by registering as an Affiliate. After determining your start date in consultation with your assigned scientist, users must complete the Affiliate registration process as soon as possible. If you have any questions during this process, feel free to email alsuser@lbl.gov

Click the Submit Information button to begin the process.

If you have ever completed an application through this system (Taleo) as an Affiliate, Contract Worker, Facility User, or Employee of Berkeley Lab, and have an existing account, you may log in with those credentials. If you do not remember your username or password you can click the links provided to request assistance.

If this is your first time through the process click on "New User" and you will be prompted to create a login. Be prepared to create a username and password which is for this particular system only, and supply an email address that you are able to check for the purpose of registering as a Berkeley Lab Affiliate.

TIP: The username and password you select for this system will be used throughout the registration process to review and sign documents electronically so it's important to keep the information handy.

Once you complete this registration process you will receive an email containing a link to tasks  that must be completed prior to your arrival. Once requirements are completed, the system will send you an email with site access information.
