Berkeley Lab has an opening for an Administrator for the Internal Audit Services Department to provide high-level audit assistance and administrative support for management and the Department. This position will also determine appropriate methods to resolve issues pertaining to high-level requests from external contacts and Berkeley Lab management and independently handle a variety of administrative functions in support of the Department’s business needs. 


What You Will Do:

  • Prepare reports for the Audit Committee, Berkeley Lab, University of California (UC), and Department of Energy (DOE) entities. 

    • Monitor progress on department deliverables and report department performance against the annual audit plan, DOE contract performance measures and other criteria. 

    • Develop operational highlights of Internal Audit Services performance for department head’s briefing to the Audit Committee, Contract Assurance Council and UC/LBNL management. 

    • Coordinate the preparation of the 5-year Audit Implementation Design Plan.

  • Assist the Chief Audit Executive in implementing risk assessment strategies and in conducting risk intake meetings; compile results of risk assessment stakeholder meetings and prepare consolidated list of risk topics; compare LBNL risk topics with risks identified by other organizations (Office of Inspector General, UC, DOE contractors); prepare audit plan schedules for approval. Assist in scheduling audit resources to complete annual audit plan. 

  • Use Teammate software to set-up and maintain Internal Audit projects, including status monitoring, resource assignments, time charges, corrective action tracking, and close-out activities.

  • Maintain tracking system of corrective actions resulting from audit recommendations. Produce reports summarizing corrective actions and follow-up, as well as monthly reports for auditors’ follow-up planning. Assist in preparing annual reports to UC Office of the President and DOE summarizing recommendations and follow-up. 

  • Support Internal Audit projects with transaction testing, documentation review, data analysis, research, interviews, and other tasks. Support the External Audit Liaison in handling information requests from government agencies and distributing external reports to applicable functional areas. Maintain external audit data and submit monthly updates to UC Office of the President, and others as requested.

  • Provide administrative support, including travel, purchasing support, scheduling meetings, Audit Committee meetings, taking meeting notes, and other tasks as needed. Work with resource analyst to monitor budget and analyze variances. 

  • Represent department at Division Safety Committee.


What is Required:

  • Bachelors’ degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant administrative experience, or equivalent work experience.

  • Ability to interact diplomatically and effectively with people at all levels, to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to perform administrative assignments requiring judgment and initiative in anticipating and resolving issues and ability to work with minimal supervision. 

  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks to meet demanding deadlines, provide accurate and relevant work products, and manage logistical arrangements.

  • Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and ability to use desktop and laptop computers to apply analytical techniques and tools.


Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Berkeley Lab policies and business procedures, and experience in using Berkeley Lab business systems.

  • General knowledge of audit process and audit office management practices desirable.

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
