Air Conditioning Mechanic
Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Facilities Division has an opening for an Air Conditioning Mechanic to join their Site Utilities & Maintenance Team!
In this role, you will be responsible for the efficient performance of a wide range of service/installation activities related to Heating, Boilers, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R).
What You Will Do:
- Perform a wide range of service/installation activities related to Heating, Boilers, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R).
- Repair, troubleshoot, install, and provide preventive maintenance.
- Modify, fabricate and provide design consultation on centrifugal, reciprocating, screw, and magnetic chillers.
- Comply with all health and safety policies including applicable Federal, State, and local fire, health, safety, emergency-preparedness, pollution-prevention, and environmental protection policies.
- Perform all work safely and be particularly aware of potentially hazardous operations or conditions.
What is Required:
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship or technical training in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) technology, along with formal training in pneumatic / electronic/electrical controls, building automation systems, and refrigerant recovery equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and providing preventive maintenance on HVAC/R equipment.
- Experience using a variety of craft techniques, including welding, brazing, and pipe fitting.
- Must be CFR certified as a universal technician by an EPA-approved institute.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds; work at heights; work in confined spaces, around rotating equipment, under fluorescent lights; able to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl; manual dexterity in both hands; able to lift 60 lbs. to chest height; distinguish colors and use color codes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to work in a diverse team environment and clearly communicate over the telephone and two-way radio.
- Must have a valid California Driver’s License.
Notes:
- This is a full-time career appointment, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.
- The salary for this position is $53.12 hourly.
- This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes with predetermined salary rates.
