What You Will Do:

  • Develop, implement and test numerical algorithms for electromagnetics and plasmas.
  • Develop numerical algorithms for coupling particle and continuum representations of relativistic plasma physics.
  • Extend existing MHD and PIC algorithms to model pulsar magnetospheres.
  • Develop and implement numerical methodology for accurately representing embedded boundaries in microelectronic circuits and other electromagnetic applications.
  • Extend current WarpX-based micro-electronics modeling capability.
  • Interact with researchers external to the Center for Computational Sciences and Engineering (CCSE) to explore and extend the applicability of new methodology.

What is Required:

  • Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or the Physical Sciences/Engineering with a strong research background in applied mathematics, computational methods, and scientific computing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in kinetic modeling of plasmas.
  • Demonstrated expertise in computational electromagnetics.
  • Demonstrated experience with large shared code bases such as AMReX and WarpX.
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific computing with C++.
  • Demonstrated experience in parallel computing for scientific applications on hybrid CPU / GPU systems.
  • Strong background in physics and/or astrophysics.
  • Keen interest in extending mathematical and scientific computing techniques to new problems.
