Berkeley Lab is seeking a Community Relations Administrator in the Government and Community Relations Office. This position will primarily be responsible for supporting community events, administrative and other activities within the Community Relations portfolio, and will also support activities within the Federal and State relations portfolios as needed. What You Will Do:

  • Coordinate, manage, and organize scheduling and logistics for internal and external Community Relations meetings, events, and projects.  Duties include: booking space; creating, ordering, and printing collateral materials; ordering food; arranging site access; managing volunteers; setting up/breaking down; processing invoices; updating website; and other tasks as assigned.

  • Create and maintain detailed database to track meetings, events, and projects, broken down by task and timeline.

  • Provide administrative support to the Government and Community Relations Office by arranging travel, creating basic background documents, assisting with procurements; processing expense reports, processing invoices, and resolving various administrative support requests. 

  • Communicate on behalf of the Government and Community Relations team as needed, including handling email and phone correspondence internally with colleagues and externally with community stakeholders.

  • Assist in maintaining and tracking budget and expenditures using Google, Microsoft, or other management software.

  • In collaboration with the Manager for Federal and Community Relations, identify and research new community events for Berkeley Lab to participate in.

  • With guidance from Manager for Federal and Community Relations and the Facilities Division, assist in public notification process for any projects requiring CEQA/NEPA compliance.


What is Required:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant administrative experience, with demonstrated ability to take initiative and anticipate, organize, and deliver a wide array of event planning and administrative support services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills sufficient to independently establish priorities and ensure completion of projects in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrated experience and flexibility as a team player who can work effectively with a broad range of people.

  • Substantial knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Google G Suite, and video conferencing systems (such as Zoom).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 


Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • AA or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

  • Experience working with community organizations.

  • Familiarity with the U.S. Department of Energy and University of California systems, and an interest in science and technology.

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
