Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has multiple openings for a Computer Systems Engineer 3 in Berkeley, CA.

 

Duties: Foster breakthrough discoveries through the application and development of novel data science methods, technologies, and infrastructures in partnership with science domain experts. Perform focused research and development in the areas of data driven modeling and analytics, scalable methods, data lifecycle and infrastructure, digital integrity, security, and privacy for scientific computing, and sustainable software engineering with deep science partnerships. Work with researchers and application scientists from the DOE Office of Science community, and faculty and students from universities both nationally and internationally, on a wide array of software development and data science problems serving the broader scientific missions of the SciData division, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and Department of Energy mission. Design and develop software solutions to enable scientific research, as part of diverse teams including domain scientists. Deploy, install, and configure continuous integration software solutions. Collect, manipulate, process, and analyze data related to scientific computing systems. Educate, coordinate and/or lead the development and domain science teams on software requirements and features. Coordinate and present to audiences within and outside the lab on project progress and opportunities. May telecommute.

 

Benefits: The full salary range of this position is between $126,900 to $214,140 per year depending upon candidates' full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience. 

 

Requirements: Employer will accept a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or in an engineering-related occupation. Position requires:

1. Proficiency in multiple programming languages including Python, C/C++, Unix shell, Java or JavaScript;

2. Experience with GUI and command-line interface to Linux-based operating systems including Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, CentOS or OpenSuse

3. Experience with software development processes and tools including unit testing, version control (git, SVN, or similar), code-sharing platforms (GitHub, GitLab, BitBucket, or similar) in the context of multidisciplinary, multi-institution research projects

4. Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters or other large-scale distributed computing systems
