Electrical CAD Administrator 2
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Engineering Division is hiring an Electrical CAD Administrator 2 to support Electrical and Electronic Design Applications across Windows and Linux. This role ensures the performance, stability, and integration of CAD and simulation tools, enhancing design and development projects. Responsibilities include maintaining ECAD/EDA applications, managing software deployment, updates, and licensing, and supporting server infrastructure and upgrades. The position involves solving diverse technical issues and maintaining system functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
What You Will Do:
- Provide technical support for CAD applications, assisting engineering with complex issues.
- Plan and coordinate the creation of templates and custom library solutions.
- Manage support for ECAD applications and libraries, including OrCAD, Cadence, AutoCAD, and others.
- Oversee ECAD software installation, version upgrades, and deployment recommendations.
- Maintain and configure physical and virtual Windows/Linux server environments, including upgrades and license management.
- Recommend and implement software improvements to enhance efficiency and consistency.
- Contribute to QA documentation, template parameterization, and server infrastructure maintenance.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements.
Additional Responsibilities as Needed:
- Develop data storage solutions and integrate third-party applications
- Collaborate to improve and customize the PLM experience.
- Support software licensing, contract negotiations, and purchasing.
- Assist with infrastructure upgrades and migration planning.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity and system integrity standards.
What is Required:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years or Master’s with 3+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent.
- Skilled in administering complex systems in Windows and Linux environments.
- Knowledgeable in ECAD/EDA tools (e.g., OrCAD, Xpedition, Cadence, ANSYS, Xilinx, Silvaco) and related libraries.
- Experienced with scripting (Bash, PowerShell, etc.) for automation and workflow improvement.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills with a customer-focused support approach.
- Proven ability to support multidisciplinary teams and interact across technical levels.
- Familiar with software licensing, version upgrades, and remote access tools (e.g., SSH, VNC).
- Capable of applying sound judgment to deliver effective ECAD solutions.
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiar with PLM systems, including version control, BOM management, and design traceability.
- Experience with enterprise PLM platforms (e.g., Teamcenter, ENOVIA).
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices in technical environments.
- Knowledge of software licensing, contracts, and procurement.
Notes:
- This is a full-time 2-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
- The expected salary for this position is $97,000.00 - $119,000.00, which fits into the full salary of $86,628.00 - $146,196.00 annually depending upon the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

- This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with at least 3 days per week onsite - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
