Electrical CAD Administrator 3
The Engineering Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking a skilled Electrical CAD Administrator 3 to support and optimize CAD tools for electronic and electrical design. This role focuses on administering, integrating, and enhancing ECAD/EDA applications for schematics, PCB layouts, simulation, IC design, and PDKs across Windows and Linux systems.
Key responsibilities include maintaining software and hardware infrastructure, managing licensing and deployments, and ensuring system performance and reliability. The role involves solving complex technical issues, contributing to infrastructure upgrades, and collaborating closely with engineering teams to support design and development workflows.
What You Will Do:
- Administer a wide range of ECAD tools for schematic capture, PCB layout, IC design, simulation, and data management (e.g., OrCAD, Cadence, Xpedition, ADS, Cliosoft).
- Plan and implement software installations, upgrades, templates, and custom libraries.
- Support engineering teams with documentation, version control, and traceability processes.
- Provide technical support for ECAD applications, libraries, and foundry PDKs.
- Create user documentation and training resources.
- Manage Windows/Linux servers, including performance, licensing, upgrades, and access control.
- Oversee software licensing, procurement, and vendor coordination.
- Mentor junior administrators and support staff.
Additional Responsibilities as Needed:
- Enhance PLM systems by integrating third-party tools and customizing user workflows.
- Monitor tech trends to guide infrastructure planning and software choices.
- Streamline engineering workflows for efficiency, quality, and system integration.
- Identify and implement automation and process improvements.
- Collaborate with IT on secure, scalable infrastructure upgrades and migrations.
- Ensure compliance with LBNL cybersecurity and system integrity standards.
What is Required:
- 8+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s, 6+ with a Master’s, or equivalent.
- Skilled in administering and troubleshooting complex Windows/Linux systems.
- Deep knowledge of ECAD/EDA tools (e.g., OrCAD, Xpedition, Cadence, Ansys, Xilinx, Silvaco) and PDKs.
- Proficient in scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell) for automation and workflow improvement.
- Strong communication, customer support, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to manage critical engineering applications in high-availability environments.
- Experienced in deploying software, EDA kits, libraries, and managing licenses.
- Familiar with remote access tools (e.g., VNC, SSH) and both Unix/Linux and Windows OS.
- Effective team leader with strong problem-solving and independent decision-making abilities.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of PLM systems (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter, ENOVIA) and ECAD integration, including version control, BOM, and traceability.
- Familiar with cybersecurity compliance (e.g., NIST) in scientific environments.
- Experience with software licensing, maintenance, and procurement contracts.
Notes:
- This is a full-time 2-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
- The expected salary for this position is $123,000.00 - $150,000.00, which fits into the full salary of $109,152.00 - $184,200.00 annually depending upon the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.

- This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with at least 3 days per week onsite - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
