Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Foundry Division has an immediate need for Postdoctoral Scholar to join the Nanofabrication Facility. The Molecular Foundry is a national user facility for nanoscale science and is one of five Department of Energy Nanoscale Science Research Centers. The Postdoc will be able to perform world-class research programs taking advantage of our collaborative and interdisciplinary facility. What You Will Do:

  • Contribute to the advancement of the nanofabrication processes at single digit nanometer resolution (<10 nm).

  • Provide expertise in one or more of the following research areas: 3D nanofabrication, integrated directed self-assembly, advanced pattern transfer, scanning probe lithography, and/or new patternable materials.

  • Provide expertise with applications such as devices for optoelectronics, in situ analysis and manipulation devices, next generation resist development, nanoelectronics, quantum computing, energy harvesting and storage, and/or bio-engineering.

  • Collaborates with other research teams and scientists.

  • Presents work at national meetings and at regular group meetings.

  • Provides skills to the Principle Investigator (PI) group and trains more junior Scientists.

  • Contributes positively to the active research culture.

  • Works in a safe and healthy manner consistent with EH&S guidelines.

  • Respect diversity & is Inclusive 


What is Required: 

  • Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, or another discipline relevant to nanofabrication, nanotechnology and nanoscience.

  • Strong background in nanofabrication, and material science basic characterization techniques;

  • Safety conscious with a good understanding of positive safety culture.

  • Strong publication record in top-rated scientific journals, with extensive experience in the preparation and handling of scientific manuscripts, reports, and research posters.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary groups.

  • Experience with the nanofabrication processes at single digit nanometer resolution (<10 nm).

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior interaction with a wide and diverse range of scientists from all over the world.

Notes:

  • This is a full time, 2-year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 4 years paid postdoctoral experience. 

  • Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
