The Computational Research Division (CRD) at Berkeley Lab is hiring for a Post Baccalaureate Fellow to work collaboratively with scientists at the Lab to become familiar with research concepts and procedures that contribute to the development of world-class research in this topical space and empower science within the community.


What You Will Do:

  • Become familiar with concepts in numerical modeling including numerical accuracy and convergence.

  • Become familiar with organizing and developing large-scale software projects, including Chombo and BISICLES.

  • Become proficient at using BISICLES to model different ice sheet processes and configurations.

  • Prepare reports, manuscripts and other documentation as needed for publication and/or for presentation at seminars and scientific conferences.

  • Observe, learn and collaborate with research personnel at Berkeley Lab.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related discipline within the past two years.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.2 out of 4.0.

  • Some software-development and/or programming experience.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with large-scale scientific software.

  • Experience in C++, Fortran, and/or python.

  • Knowledge of glaciology.


The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.

  • This is a full-time 1-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
