Berkeley Lab’s Office of Chief Financial Officer Division (OFCO) has an opening for a Procurement Service Center Subcontract Administrator.  


The OFCO’s mission is to provide high-value financial and procurement stewardship, services and strategic solutions that contribute to our scientific mission. Working under the direction of the Service Center Lead, this position will be responsible for the purchasing of high volume, low risk PCard orders and Subcontracts, including chemicals, raw materials, tools, and off-site equipment maintenance and support services.


What You Will Do:

  • Purchase high volume, low risk goods and services with a value within the delegated procurement authority limit for this position using the appropriate purchasing methodology while maintaining compliance with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s (LBNL) policies and procedures.

  • Follow the LBNL’s Standard Practices and Procedures, place pCard and purchase orders based on understanding the customers’ requirements and suppliers’ capacity and resolve purchase order issues of limited scope and minimal complexity.

  • Provide notice to other functional areas with contractual-related responsibilities such as Property Management or Environmental Health and Safety. 

  • Assure timely and accurate reconciliation and  close-out of pCard and purchase orders.

  • Respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner and keep customers informed of PCard and Subcontract status.

  • Ensure all subcontract information is entered into Financial Management System (FMS) timely and accurately.

  • Proactively provide status on all open requisitions and orders to customers in accordance with established operating standards.

  • Track incoming customer inquiries in Help Desk ticketing database.


What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and 1 to 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in procurement related activities.  

  • General knowledge of procurement activities and systems.

  • Ability to apply concepts and principles to research and resolve procurement related issues of limited scope and complexity.

  • Ability to professionally and effectively interact and build relationships with internal and external customers, including dealing with difficult customer service issues

  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet browsers

  • Experience with PeopleSoft or an electronic purchasing system

  • Ability to work in excess of a normal workweek to meet assignments/deliverables.

  • This is a full time 1 year term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.

  • This position is subject to the financial disclosure requirements of the California Political Reform Act of 1974.   • Work will be primarily performed at Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) — Bldg. 971, 6401 Hollis St., Emeryville, CA.
