Berkeley Lab’s Energy Sciences Area's (ESA) Materials Sciences Division (MSD) is seeking a dynamic and driven Program Manager to lead, support, and coordinate the technical, strategic, and operational aspects of our groundbreaking multi-million dollar scientific projects. The PM will have a thematic focus on Microelectronics and Quantum Information programs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the world of materials science.

What You Will Do:

  • Coordinating science and technology development activities to foster collaboration and meet project timelines.

  • Overseeing operational aspects to ensure activities align with research and management plans.

  • Preparing and editing reports, proposals, and presentations, ensuring timely submissions.

  • Drafting responses on a wide range of policy, planning, and compliance documents.

  • Liaising between internal and external stakeholders, nurturing relationships with industry partners, universities, and funding agencies.

  • Coordinating program website content and facilitating outreach activities.

  • Contributing to the renewal of ongoing projects and coordinating town-hall meetings, brainstorming discussions and workshops.

  • Identifying and assisting with responses to funding opportunities essential to MSD/ESA's strategic goals.



What is Required:

  • A Bachelor's or advanced degree in relevant fields such as chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, or materials sciences, or equivalent work/training experience.

  • At least 8 years of work experience, including program planning, scheduling, and budgeting.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to analyze complex situations critically, and effectively convey information.

  • Expertise in coordinating programs, including planning, budgeting, and resource management.

  • Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting complex scientific and technical information to various audiences.

  • Proven ability to work independently and manage projects of varying scope.

  • Proficiency with document software and virtual conferencing systems like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, Google Drive, and Zoom.



Desired Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field.

  • Experience with developing and editing technical documentation, scientific publications, and presentations.

  • A broad understanding of the LBNL and DOE mission, organization, and public policy issues.

  • Familiarity with web platform editing tools like WordPress, Google Sites, and more.

Notes:

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is expected to pay $132,312.00 - $165,396.00, which fits within the full salary range of $132,312.00 - $223,296.00 for the Program Manager 3. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, plus also aligned with the internal peer group. 

  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.

  • Hybrid work mode, with on-site presence at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA required 3 days per week plus additional presence for some activities (i.e., meetings, workshops).
