Berkeley Lab’s Computational Research Division has an opening for a Research Assistant. Assist with building machine learning solutions for network systems and infrastructures under the direction of a Research Scientist.  


What You Will Do:

  • Assist with programming of large-scale calculations and data analysis for network systems logs.

  • Assist with editing and preparing manuscripts

  • Gather and analyze data for time-series prediction methods and investigate existing ML libraries.

  • Assists with deploying ML algorithms on NERSC high performance computers.

  • Organizes, maintains, and updates website content.

  • Preparing literature reviews.

  • Attend project meetings.

  • Interact with direct supervisor and minimal contact with supervisor's collaborators. Provides work results to supervisors directly.


What is Required:

  • Knowledgeable about python programming.

  • Some experience with network use cases involving prediction and machine learning approaches.

  • Understand computer network operations.

  • Familiar with common machine learning libraries and understand how to select appropriate methods based on requirements given by work lead.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.


The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.


Notes:

  • This is a full time, 6 months, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.

  • Full-time, M-F, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

  • Salary will be determined based on range by collective bargaining agreement.

  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.

  • Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
