Berkeley Lab’s Applied Mathematics Department is hiring for a Scientific Computing Software Engineer. As a member of the AMReX team, this position will be responsible for developing documentation and training materials for the AMReX software framework.  In addition, this position will contribute to implementation of new algorithms and solution procedures, participate in testing and validation of core elements as well as application-specific features, and contribute to increasing the interoperability of AMReX with other software frameworks.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Develop documentation and tutorials for the AMReX software framework.
  • Develop unit tests for continuous integration and testing.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new algorithms and solution procedures as needed by AMReX-based application codes.
  • Contribute to increasing the interoperability of AMReX with other software frameworks.
  • Participate in testing and validation of core elements and application-specific features of AMReX.
  • Perform performance profiling and investigate computational tradeoffs of selected software elements.
  • Support exploration of new applications of the new algorithms and implementations for flows of interest to the Lab and to the Department of Energy (DOE).

 

What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Background in Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with research experience in Applied Mathematics, Computational Methods, and Scientific Computing.
  • Experience implementing parallel algorithms for scientific applications.
  • Experience with scientific computing using C++.
  • Keen interest in mathematical and scientific computing techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work productively both independently and as part of a diverse team.

Notes:

  • This is a full-time 3 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
