Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Office of Chief Financial Officer Division (OCFO) has an opening for a Sr. Financial Analyst to join the team.

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for the execution (completion) of a diverse range of recurring and ad-hoc activities for DOE, OCFO team members and our Division partners. While some activities are routine, others are complex and non-standard, requiring detailed and accurate analyses.  This takes place in a multi-tasking environment where a quick turnaround is often required. 

Activities include:

  • Providing timely identification of possible funds control issues.
  • Synthesizing and consolidating financial information to help inform decision making.
  • Coordinating and validating data collection in response to various data calls.
  • Understanding and applying knowledge of DOE and Laboratory policies .
  • Partnering with internal and external stakeholders (Divisions, DOE, Business Systems Group etc.) to prevent potential problems and resolve complex issues.
  • Producing various recurring financial reports, reconciliations, and presentations.
  • Maintaining Laboratory databases and financial systems to assure system integrity.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Performing all necessary analysis and follow-up on funds control issues.  
  • The planning, coordination and consolidation of information from Divisions to respond to requests from DOE.
  • Producing various recurring periodic reports which detail cost and funding information accurately and on a timely basis.  
  • Partnering with Divisional Analysts and General Accounting to support the Monthly Close process.
  • Acting as a training resource for Divisional Analysts on process and system related issues. 
  • In consultation with the Manager, responding to LBNL Management inquiries.
  • Functioning as Team member on a variety of cross-departmental and Lab wide teams as needed. 
  • Serve as a liaison for DOE Direct Funding issues for DOE/Consolidated Service Center (CSC)/Bay Area Site Office (BASO).
  • Consult/provide guidance on matters of funding, policy and systems to Division Partners. Develop and provide training as needed to increase understanding of related practices. 
  • Assist in various pre-award activities, including proposal support, coordination with BASO and serving as the POC for Office of Science proposal submission.

 

Additional Responsibilities as needed:

  • The execution and/or support of various annual tasks as required, including:  The annual Budget Formulation exercise, Annual Report, and Uncosted Balances exercise.
  • Various ad-hoc analysis and reporting requests; backup of other analyst positions; procedure documentation and training.

 

What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Economics or equivalent training and experience and a minimum of 4 years of related experience in a financial environment in a multidivisional organization.  
  • Experienced in performing detailed and accurate analyses.
  • Advanced user of Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Clear and concise communication skills (both written and verbal). 
  • Experienced in creating effective reports/presentations.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Technical knowledge of complex accounting and budgeting principles.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Laboratory, UC and DOE/Federal policies and procedures related to financial management.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory systems, including FMS (PeopleSoft 9.2), eSRA and Cognos Reporting.

 

Notes:

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
  • This position will be hired at a level commensurate with the business needs and the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate.
