Berkeley Lab’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) is looking for a Senior Financial Systems and Reporting Analyst to join the Budget Office!


In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of analytical, business, and financial system processes and support functions.  While some activities are routine, a segment requires non-standard analysis and providing resolution to a diverse range of complex problems within a quick turnaround time.


What You Will Do:

  • Provide excellent customer support on financial system processes to the lab community by ensuring accurate and timely resolutions to a diverse range of complex questions and issues.

  • Prepare training materials on financial system processes and train Lab employees.

  • Serve as the primary contact for the Lab’s pricing/planning tool the “Planning System” used to accurately estimate costs.

  • Contribute to the development and deployment of training materials on the Planning System and Pricing spreadsheet, including maintenance of the Planning System Training materials on the OCFO website.

  • Maintain LBNL’s excel pricing spreadsheet and Rate Handbook.

  • Serve as a backup to the Indirect Budget Analyst responsible for maintaining accurate pricing within the Financial Management System (FMS) and Planning System.

  • Serve as a backup to the Electronic System for Research Administration (eSRA) functional lead, providing assistance in the areas of help desk support and user training.

  • Produce and deliver standard quarterly report to UCOP, utilizing (eSRA) data.

  • Serve as the backup to the DOE Direct Analyst responsible for proposal submission including user support and proposals submitted to OSTI and Grants.gov.

  • Maintain a subset of tables within the FMS to assist in various annual exercises, including the systems security review and the identification/prioritization of system enhancements.

  • Identify/support process improvements, including policy development, training and/or system modifications.

  • Lead the effort to redesign the Budget Office website, including developing and refreshing content, coordinating with the webmaster to implement requested changes.


What is Required:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, or a related field and a minimum of 4 years of related experience in a multidivisional organization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in developing training materials based on user needs, and delivering that training in a clear and cohesive manner.

  • Experience providing excellent customer service including help desk support on financial systems.

  • Ability to learn business processes, generate departmental process flows, incorporate system impacts, and write business requirements.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks, work under pressure, successfully meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of competence, accuracy, and attention to detail.

  • Extensive experience with MS Excel, use of data analysis functions, ability to create standard and ad hoc reports, presentations, charts, and graphs.

  • Proficiency with PeopleSoft financial applications or other relevant software applications; Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Applications, and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively interact with a diverse and broad range of internal and external stakeholders.


What We Desire:

  • Advanced graduate degree.

  • Knowledge of LBNL financial systems (FMS, Planning, eSRA).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements and reengineering efforts.

  • Experience in learning business processes, generating departmental process flows, incorporating system impacts and writing business requirements.

  • This is a full time, M-F, exempt from overtime pay (monthly paid), Career appointment.  

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.

  • Work will be primarily performed at the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) — Bldg. 971, 6401 Hollis St., Emeryville, CA; however, travel occasionally to/from the Berkeley Lab Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA is required.
