Will perform production and research assignments, data analysis and interpretation related to various technology in next-generation sequencing (NGS) library construction and tasks necessary to meet the goals of the large-scale genome, transcriptome and epigenome characterization effort. Tasks involve evaluation of sample quality, library construction, library quality evaluation and submission using LIMS systems. Will be responsible for understanding the latest sequencing technology, support or lead new technology development and integrate new protocols onto JGI sequencing platforms. Will also interpret rolling quality control (rQC) reports, troubleshoot process failures and participate in the optimization of protocols. Emphasis will be placed on meeting the library production goals as well as conducting research and development (R&D) experiments.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform work assignments to create various types of libraries from samples (DNA, RNA, chromatin or cell/nuclei) from JGI users’ including prokaryote, eukaryote organisms, and environmental samples.

  • Understand and interpret QC results and implement modifications as needed.

  • Follow up with accurate data entry into LIMS system.

  • Interpret rQC reports to evaluate library quality and identify failure and propose solutions.

  • Independently design and perform experiments, summarize results, and provide conclusions on R&D projects.

  • Understand general library development issues relating to production needs, identify areas of improvement and offer feedback.

  • Troubleshoot & optimize current library construction protocols to meet scientific research goals.
