Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging Division has an opening for a Senior Research Associate to join the team.

In this exciting role, you will work in the Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging division to perform research assignments such as programing functions, importing data, providing preliminary analysis of data, developing quality assurance methods, and troubleshooting failed analyses for positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data in the new XNAT database.  You will also perform initial compilation and analysis of PET and MRI data for the lab as well as collaborating with other labs.  Under general supervision, the specific tasks will be assigned and explained and results will be reviewed, but will work somewhat independently on developing code, testing, and troubleshooting.  

 

What You Will Do:

  • Write and edit code (Python/Matlab) to import PET and MRI data for data analysis  
  • Perform quality control of PET and MRI data
  • Troubleshoot/fix scans that do not pass quality control
  • Provide preliminary analysis of PET/MRI data
  • Compile/provide datasets for other labs
  • Maintain records of datasets shared, data quality control problems, and solutions
  • Develop new analyses/visualization of data as needed

 

Additional Responsibilities as needed:

  • Perform advanced analysis on PET data such as partial volume correction or pharmacokinetic modeling

 

What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineer, medical physics, or a related field preferred and 2 to 5 years of relevant experience with increasing responsibility
  • Experience with Python or Matlab
  • Experience with medical imaging
  • Knowledge of statistics
  • Experience documenting research results and record-keeping
  • Good organizational and communication skills

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, engineer, medical physics, or related field

 

Notes:

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
