POSITION: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has an opening for a Senior Scientific Engineering Associate in Berkeley, CA.

 

Duties: Contribute to the development, validation, and maintenance of the next generation of solar radiation, lighting, and daylighting models and tools, and utilize the tools for design, evaluation, and operation of innovative technologies to achieve very low-energy buildings. Develop, validate, document, apply, distribute, and maintain the next generation of tools for building energy system modeling and model-based controls in support of the design and operation of innovative energy-efficient building technologies. Validate models and tools against laboratory and outdoor field measurements. Evaluate innovative fenestration and lighting technologies in outdoor testbeds and occupied buildings. Design experimental protocols, calibrate and set up instrumentation and data acquisition systems, conduct studies, and provide technical report(s) for peer review and public dissemination. Link domain-specific tools to support rapid prototyping and integrated whole-system level analysis. Apply engineering or scientific concepts and practices in a scientific or engineering field in one or more of the following areas of specialized expertise: design of experimental apparatuses, scientific/ engineering support, or coordination. Contribute to project process within his/her scientific discipline. Participate in the investigation, creation, and development of new methods and techniques for project advancement. Use professional concepts in accordance with Lab objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways. Work on core solar control and daylighting project areas supported by the Building Technologies Office of the U.S. Department of Energy: (1) Solar-Optical Characterization of Complex Fenestration Systems; (2) Core Research Requirements: Support for BTO Windows/Envelope Programs: Solar Control and Daylighting Measures; and (3) Radiance Simulation Software. These projects support the architectural engineering community in their development and evaluation of energy-efficient shading and daylighting technologies in buildings, manufacturers and industry consortia in the certification and market adoption of innovative products, and government agencies in the development of codes and standards. Must be able to lift 20- 30 lbs., and to climb and balance on ladders and scaffolding.

 

Requirements: Bachelors in Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or related technical field.
