Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Materials Sciences Division (MSD), has an opening for a Student Assistant  to join the team.

In the Materials Sciences Division we advance the fundamental understanding and accelerate the discovery and design of materials to address outstanding future challenges in energy and information science and technology. Support is needed in the MSD Division Office for various administrative projects. Start date and hours per week are negotiable; initially, we anticipate that working hours will be primarily onsite during the onboarding and training period.



What You Will Do:

  • Assist with implementation of the new Division website.

  • Assist Safety personnel with Work Process Control Activity database updates.

  • Publications database support.

  • Setting up a tracking system for students’ PTO time.

  • Annual and triennial reporting support.



What is Required:

  • Must be an undergraduate student enrolled in a full-time academic program.

  • Experience working in an administrative environment.

  • Proficient computer skills including experience using Google Applications Suite and Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to create documents and spreadsheets.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.



Desired Qualifications:

  • Preferred Major: Business.

  • Website editing (Wordpress, Google Sites).

  • Experience with Excel, Google Sheets formulas, pivot tables, and basic data .



Notes:

  • Position: This is a part time, non-exempt from overtime pay (hourly paid), 3-month Student appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must be enrolled in a full time undergraduate academic program to qualify for this position.

  • Hours: This position can operate up to 40 hours per week during the summer months and up to 20 hours per week during the academic school year (September-May). Hours/Days of the week are flexible however hours worked must be within standard business hours (M-F 8am to 5pm).

  • Location: Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.

  • Transportation: Berkeley Lab Shuttles are available at no cost. 

  • Salary: Salary for this position is predetermined based on student step rates.

    • Undergrad Year 1 (Freshman) = $16.99 hourly

    • Undergrad Year 2-3 (Sophomore & Junior) = $18.72 hourly

    • Undergrad Year 4 (Senior) = $22.02 hourly
