Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Scientific Networking Division is hiring for Software Developers to join ESnet to work with the Testbed and Prototypes team.

 

The Testbed and Prototypes team is a group of engineers that create novel prototype network services to support the future of science data movement between the Department of Energy (DOE) and partner facilities across the globe. In this role, developers will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of external and internal participants to create and evaluate new technologies, prototype services and solutions, and work to transition these prototypes into production.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct technical evaluations.
  • Participate in software development projects, including:
    • The development of user stories, requirements, designs, project plans and software solutions.
    • Completing project work on time using established management procedures.
    • Collaborating with a mix of remote and local project participants.
  • Write accurate and clear documentation and technical analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of variable factors.

 

What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 5 years of experience working in software development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing for the Linux platform using the following languages: Python, Java, Javascript. Experience with modern development and integration tools such as git, travisci, gitlab to create both libraries and applications.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, Socket Programming and Networking Fundamentals.
  • Experience using Linux distributions. 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Go, C, C++.
  • Experience administering Linux systems.
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Kubenetes.
  • Experience writing distributed applications.
  • Experience conducting technical evaluations.

  • This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
