Berkeley Lab’s Human Resources Division has an opening for a UCPath Testing Lead. This position will serve as a strategic Project Lead in support of the implementation of UCPath. UCPath is the University of California’s program to implement a single payroll, benefits, human resources and academic personnel solution for all UC employees, leveraging a single instance of PeopleSoft.  The UCPath Testing Lead is a full time member of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) implementation core team. The position will develop, evaluate, execute, and manage the plans and schedules for various types of tests, including configuration, unit testing, System Integration Testing, Payroll Parallel Testing and User Acceptance Testing. Tests also include end-to-end process testing. This position will lead the testing team, collaborating with cross-project team members, workstream leads and subject matter experts.


What You Will Do:

  • Define the Testing Project Plan identifying strategy and all necessary deliverables

  • Overall Testing Project Management. Provide updates and coordinates efforts with all the LBNL UCPath teams and UC-wide project team.

  • Develop and implement process of the UCPath testing deliverables.

  • Lead a team to test the UCPath PeopleSoft HR and Payroll modules and LBNL specific configurations and system designs impacted by the HR/Payroll implementation to ensure proper operation and freedom from defects.

  • Work closely with  UCPath team on overall testing strategy, test plans, and schedules for each type of testing, including configuration, unit testing, system integration testing, payroll parallel tests, and user acceptance testing.

  • Ensure tests reconcile business needs with technical parameters.

  • Coordinate subject matter expert participation in all testing activities, including scripts development, user acceptance testing and analysis of test results, and resolution of error conditions.

  • Set clear objectives, evaluate deliverables, assign and re-allocate duties as necessary.  Provides guidance and training as necessary.

  • Apply advanced Quality Assurance (QA)/Release Management concepts to perform highly complex procedures to ensure that all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end-user requirements.

  • Review UCPath unit test scripts and provide feedback. Recommend corrective actions when necessary.

  • Provide test scenarios for business processes used in test scripts. Provide overall coordination of both payroll systems for the payroll parallel tests.


What is Required:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration or related field from an accredited institution and 7+ years of experience on large, complex Technical Projects or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of applications function and analysis.

  • Thorough knowledge relating to the design and development of applications programs and analysis of those applications.

  • Thorough knowledge of other related areas of IT.

  • Advanced skills associated with analysis of programming design, modification, and implementation.

  • Advanced skills related to application lifecycle management and software testing

  • Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Understanding of using automated testing tools and ability to perform automated QA procedures.

  • High level understanding of “end-to-end” business processes and sub-processes. Ability to consider upstream and downstream process impacts and implications.

  • Track record of successful PeopleSoft ERP implementations with a large role in testing.

  • Advanced knowledge of technical quality assurance principles, theories, and concepts.

  • Knowledge of Information Technology security functions and practices. Ability to develop testing scripts and tools.

  • Knowledge of web applications, programming, database, infrastructure, and information management.

  • Experience in project management, planning, execution, monitoring, and controlling. Demonstrated understanding of project management concepts, practices, and standards.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills and experience in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills. Demonstrated ability to lead in a collaborative environment, build consensus, and promote the exchange of information among project team members.

  • Excellent written, oral, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience interacting with Project Management Office, Smartsheet, JIRA and familiar with Google Apps, MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.


Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of HR, Benefits and Payroll Processes in Education or Government Organizations.

  • Experience working for the University of California.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft HCM / Payroll Modules

  • Project Management Professional

  • Certification in Quality Assurance or Release Management Methodologies

Notes:

  • This is a full time, 1-year term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.

  • Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
